Lexxe is an Australian search engine that combines normal search functions with a number of language and other tricks to answer all your questions. The idea is not really new – Ask Jeeves has been doing it for years – but Lexxe claims the search engine is of the third generation. Of course that has created curiosity.
Both Lexxe and Ask Jeeves can, in some cases, really give an answer to your questions. In other cases, they can give you a list of websites where you can eventually find your answers. Lexxe appears to come up with an answer more frequently than Ask Jeeves. For example “Who won the tour of France five times?”. The answer is then Lance Armstrong. However this is not complete. If you ask which languages are spoken in Belgium than you get the only reply “Dutch - sometimes unofficially called Flemish”.
The makers of this site are saying that this is only the alpha version of Lexxe. Maybe that is why it is not so fast. Sometimes the answers are very surprising. For example “Who is the most beautiful woman on earth?”. And the answer is Helen. This refers to Helen of Troy. Lexxe is not just yet a really handy search engine, but the Australians do make a point here that searching the internet doesn’t have to be using Google all the time.
